Ted O’Connor
Reverse Mortgage Specialist
In Chicago a few years ago, a popular athlete appeared at a local
automobile dealership one Saturday afternoon. The athlete greeted customers
and signed autographs. His appearance had been advertised in the local
papers and on TV. He was being paid to promote the dealer’s low-priced,
American-made automobiles. When the session was over, the popular athlete
said his goodbyes, walked out to the parking lot, got into his luxurious
foreign-made sports car and drove off. The truth was that even though
he urged other people to buy them, he wouldn’t be caught dead
in one of those ordinary cars.
That kind of thing happens a lot today. It’s
not just celebrities or movie stars, people in the business world also
find themselves selling products or services that they don’t
use or don’t believe
in. “I can’t live my life like that,” says Ted O’Connor. “I
never have and I never will. If I don’t believe in something,
I don’t want anything to do with it.”
Ted had an exciting 27 year career with the Chicago
Police Department, conducting and supervising major criminal investigations.
Twice he was sent on special assignment to the United States Department
of Justice, serving for 5 years with the Drug Enforcement Agency and
for 2 years with the Chicago office of the FBI. He received numerous
awards for bravery and outstanding police work. His efforts reflected
the motto of the Chicago Police Department: “To Serve and Protect.”
Ted retired to the San Diego area 11 years ago. He
and his wife Maureen have been married for 38 years. Maureen is a retired
language teacher who currently substitutes in the Poway School District
and tutors private clients in English. They are avid sailors and spend
many weekends on their 30’ sailboat in San Diego Bay.
“I didn’t want to get into the mortgage
business,” says Ted. “I
wanted to get into the Reverse Mortgage business. It is a great product.
The government actually did something right. It is an absolute life
saver for some folks. You always feel good when you close one of these,
you know that you have really helped someone.”
